A dryer needs three things to work: heat, airflow and a drum that turns. Electric dryers heat with an element; gas dryers use an igniter, a gas valve and a flame sensor. Both rely on thermostats, thermal fuses and sensors that shut the heat off when something is wrong, and both depend on a clear exhaust path.
Lint is the most common enemy. Lint that collects inside the cabinet and in the exhaust path slows drying and makes the dryer run hot. We check airflow on every visit and show you what we find.
Signs your dryer needs a technician
- The drum turns but there is no heat
- Clothes take two or more cycles to dry
- The dryer gets very hot on the outside, or shuts off early
- The drum doesn't turn, or squeaks, thumps or scrapes
- The dryer won't start, or shows an error code
- A gas dryer clicks or tries to light but doesn't stay lit
- A burning smell: stop the dryer, unplug it and call us
Dryers we repair
Call with the brand and model number and whether it is gas or electric, and we will confirm we can help before we schedule a visit.
- Electric dryers. Heating element, thermal fuse, thermostats, sensors, belt, drum rollers, motor and controls.
- Gas dryers. Igniter, gas valve coils, flame sensor, thermal fuse, thermostats, belt, drum rollers, motor and controls.
- Stacked and closet dryers. Dryers installed in a stack or closet, where airflow and clearance matter even more.
How we diagnose a dryer
Check airflow first
We look for lint inside the cabinet and restrictions in the exhaust path, since poor airflow causes slow drying and overheating.
Test the heat circuit
On electric dryers we test the element, thermostats and thermal fuse. On gas dryers we check the igniter, gas valve coils and flame sensor.
Check the drive and controls
Belt, idler, drum rollers, motor, door switch and controls are checked for wear and correct operation.
Review the options with you
You get the findings and the cost of the repair before we start. If replacing the dryer makes more sense, we will tell you that too.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my dryer run but not heat?
On an electric dryer, the usual causes are a failed heating element, thermal fuse or thermostat. On a gas dryer, it is often the igniter, gas valve coils or flame sensor. A thermal fuse usually blows because of poor airflow, so we check for lint and restrictions too.
Do you repair gas dryers?
Yes. We repair both gas and electric dryers. Call with the brand and model number and tell us whether it is gas or electric.
Why does my dryer take so long to dry?
Restricted airflow from lint inside the cabinet or in the exhaust path is the most common cause. A weak heat source, a failing sensor or an overloaded drum can also stretch drying times.
Is lint buildup dangerous?
Lint is flammable, and heavy buildup makes a dryer run hotter than it should. If you notice a burning smell or the dryer is very hot to the touch, stop using it, unplug it and call us.
Is same-day dryer repair available?
Same-day service is available. Call as early as you can and tell us what the appliance is doing, and we will let you know what is possible that day. Availability depends on our schedule and your location, and we do not promise a specific arrival window in advance.
Is there a warranty on dryer repair?
Yes. Repairs come with a warranty of at least six months on labor and parts; the exact terms are in your written estimate. If you go ahead with the repair, the $80 diagnostic fee is credited toward it.
