An ice machine is a small refrigeration system with plumbing attached. It needs clean water coming in, a cold evaporator to freeze it, a way to release the ice (a harvest cycle, an auger or a heated mold), a place to store it and a drain for what melts. When any one of those fails the machine can look dead, but the cause is often small: a clogged filter, a scaled water valve, a dirty condenser or a failed sensor.
Refrigeration is our focus, so we look at both halves of the problem, the water side and the cooling side. That matters because some ice machine faults are really sealed-system faults, such as low refrigerant or a weak compressor, and a part swap on the water side will not fix them. We run accurate diagnostics, explain what we found and the cost before any work begins, and repair with quality parts.
Florida's hard water, heat and humidity are rough on ice machines. Mineral scale slows production and clouds ice, hot kitchens and clogged condensers push machines past their limits, and salt air attacks fittings and electronics near the coast. The same machine that ran for years can start making small, hollow cubes or stop harvesting in a single summer.
Ice machine and ice maker problems we repair
- Not making ice: the machine runs, or does not start, and the bin stays empty
- Stopped freezing: water is there but never turns into ice
- Small, thin, hollow or cloudy cubes, or cubes that fuse into a clump
- Leaking water onto the floor, into the cabinet or from a dispenser
- Noisy operation: grinding, squealing, rattling or loud humming
- Clogged, slow or partial production: the bin takes hours to fill or the machine cycles without harvesting
- Water line and filter problems: kinked or frozen line, clogged filter, low pressure or a failing inlet valve
- Ice that tastes or smells off, or visible scale and slime: cleaning and descaling needed
Every type of ice machine and ice maker
We repair the full range, commercial and residential, air-cooled and water-cooled. Call with the make and model and a short description, and we will confirm we can help before we schedule a visit.
- Undercounter ice machines. Self-contained cube and nugget machines under bars, prep counters and kitchen counters, in restaurants, cafés, offices and homes.
- Modular (head) ice machines. Commercial ice heads that sit on a storage bin or dispenser: air-cooled, water-cooled and remote-condenser systems for restaurants, hotels, bars and stores.
- Cube ice machines. Full-cube, half-cube and dice machines for drinks, displays and food service, including units that make slow, small or hollow cubes.
- Nugget and flake ice machines. Chewable nugget (pellet) and flake machines for drinks, seafood and produce displays, including auger and gearmotor problems.
- Countertop and portable ice makers. Small countertop and portable units that make ice in minutes and often fail from scale, a weak pump or a blocked water path.
- Built-in residential ice makers. Built-in and undercounter home ice makers in kitchens, bars, outdoor kitchens and lanais.
- Refrigerator and freezer ice makers. In-door, in-freezer and dispenser ice makers inside refrigerators, from side-by-side and french door models to built-in columns.
- Boat and yacht ice makers. Undercounter and cabinet ice makers on yachts and vessels, repaired at the dock or marina.
Commercial ice machines for restaurants, bars, cafés, shops and offices
When the ice machine stops in a working bar or kitchen, drinks, displays and food prep are affected right away. We repair undercounter, modular head, cube, nugget and flake machines, plus the bins, dispensers, water filtration and drain lines that go with them.
Busy commercial machines clog with mineral scale and with grease and lint on the condenser. Regular cleaning and descaling, and filter changes on a schedule, are the cheapest protection against a breakdown in the middle of the season. Ask us about a cleaning visit when you call.
Residential ice makers: built-in, undercounter, countertop and refrigerator
At home, ice makers live in kitchens, bars, lanais, outdoor kitchens and inside refrigerators. We repair built-in and undercounter ice makers, countertop and portable units, and the in-door and in-freezer ice makers and dispensers in refrigerators, including premium and panel-ready models.
Built-in units need clear ventilation and a clean water supply, and we protect cabinetry and finishes while we work. Refrigerator ice makers often stop because the freezer is too warm or the water filter is clogged, so we check the cooling system too.
Ice makers on yachts and boats
Boat ice makers work in heat, salt air and vibration, often on shore power or an inverter. We repair them at the dock or marina along the Intracoastal in Broward and Palm Beach counties. Tell us the make, model, where it is installed and the marina and slip.
Cleaning, descaling and water treatment
Scale and slime are the most common reasons for small cubes, slow production and off-tasting ice. We clean and descale ice machines and ice makers where the manufacturer's procedure calls for it, check and replace filters, and recommend a filter and cleaning schedule that fits your water.
Refrigerant work on an ice machine's sealed system is done by an EPA Section 608 certified technician, and Tech-Cepheus is insured.

How we diagnose an ice machine
Water supply, filter and drain
We check the supply line, shutoff, water pressure, filter and inlet valve, then the drain and any float or level sensor. Kinks, clogs and scale here cause most slow or empty-bin calls.
Cooling side and airflow
We check the condenser and fan, airflow around the machine and the evaporator, because a dirty condenser or weak fan keeps the machine from freezing properly in a hot kitchen or bar.
Harvest, sensors and controls
We test the harvest assist, hot gas or heater, auger and gearmotor where they apply, the bin level control, thermistors and the control board, instead of swapping parts and hoping.
Sealed system, then your options
If refrigerant or the compressor is the issue we explain the repair path and cost up front. Repairs use quality parts, and you hear the findings and price before we start.

Frequently asked questions
Why did my ice machine or ice maker stop making ice?
The usual causes are a clogged water filter, a kinked, shut-off or frozen supply line, a scaled or failed inlet valve, a dirty condenser, a failed sensor or heater, or a freezer or evaporator that is not cold enough. Check that the switch or arm is on and the water is open, then call us if there is still no ice.
Why is my ice maker making small, hollow or cloudy cubes?
Low water pressure, a clogged filter or valve, mineral scale and a dirty water distribution path are typical causes. In commercial machines a low refrigerant charge can also produce thin or incomplete cubes. A technician can tell the water side from the cooling side.
Why is my ice machine leaking water?
Common sources are a clogged drain, a stuck float or fill valve, a loose fitting, a cracked line, or a worn bin gasket or door. We trace the source and repair it, because a slow leak can damage cabinetry and floors.
Why is my ice machine so loud?
Fan and pump motors, a worn compressor, scale on moving parts or a loose panel are common causes. In nugget and flake machines a grinding or squealing sound can point to the auger or gearmotor. It is worth diagnosing early.
Do you repair both commercial ice machines and home ice makers?
Yes. We repair commercial undercounter, modular head, cube, nugget and flake machines, and residential built-in, undercounter, countertop and refrigerator ice makers, plus boat ice makers. Call with the make and model and what it is doing.
Which ice machine brands do you repair?
We repair all types and makes, including common commercial and residential brands such as Hoshizaki, Manitowoc, Scotsman, Ice-O-Matic, Follett, Kold-Draft, U-Line, Sub-Zero, Viking, KitchenAid, GE, Whirlpool, Samsung and LG. We are an independent repair company and are not affiliated with the manufacturers. Call with your model number and we will confirm we can help.
How often should an ice machine be cleaned and descaled?
Follow the manufacturer's schedule. Many commercial machines call for cleaning and sanitizing at least twice a year, and hard water or heavy use may need it more often. Ask us for a schedule that fits your water and your volume.
How often should I change the water filter on an ice machine or ice maker?
Many manufacturers suggest about every six months, and homes or businesses with hard water or heavy use may need it sooner. Check the owner's manual for the exact interval.
Is it worth repairing an older ice machine?
Often yes when the fault is a filter, valve, sensor, heater, fan or control board. The picture changes when the sealed system has failed on a low-cost unit. We give you an honest comparison of repair and replacement before you decide.
Do you provide insurance paperwork for restaurants and condo buildings?
Tech-Cepheus is insured. If your restaurant, property manager or building requires paperwork or access details, tell us when you call and we will work with you before the visit.
Is same-day ice machine and ice maker repair available?
Same-day service is available. Call as early as you can and tell us what the appliance is doing, and we will let you know what is possible that day. Availability depends on our schedule and your location, and we do not promise a specific arrival window in advance.
Is there a warranty on ice machine and ice maker repair?
Yes. Repairs come with a warranty starting at six months. Ask us about the details for your repair when we discuss the work and the cost before we start.
