Freezers are simple machines with very little tolerance for trouble. A weak seal, a stuck fan or a small refrigerant leak can take a unit from solid-frozen to soft in a day. Catching the problem early is the difference between a repair and a loss.

Many local freezers live in garages, lanais and utility rooms where summer temperatures can climb well past what the appliance was designed for. Heat load, humidity and constant door openings all push a freezer harder, so we pay close attention to condenser airflow and door sealing on every visit.

When to call for freezer service

  • Contents are soft or only partly frozen
  • Thick frost or a solid block of ice inside the cabinet
  • The compressor never shuts off, or shuts off and restarts every few minutes
  • Water around the base after a defrost cycle
  • The door doesn't close tightly or the gasket is cracked
  • A burning smell, clicking or loud humming from the back of the unit

What a freezer service visit covers

  1. Confirm the real temperature

We check the cabinet temperature against what the thermostat claims, since a miscalibrated control can fool you either way.

  2. Inspect seals, fans and coils

Gaskets, evaporator and condenser fans, and coils are the usual suspects, and often the quick fixes.

  3. Test defrost components

On frost-free models we test the heater, termination switch and sensor. On manual-defrost chest units we check drain and seal conditions.

  4. Evaluate the sealed system

If the cooling circuit has lost refrigerant or the compressor is failing, we explain the repair path and expected cost up front.

Frequently asked questions

How long does food stay frozen if my freezer stops working?

A full, closed freezer generally holds temperature for about 48 hours, and a half-full one for around 24. Keep the lid or door shut, and don't refreeze food that has thawed and warmed above 40°F.

Why does my freezer keep frosting up?

Frost usually points to moist air getting in through a worn gasket or a door left ajar, or on frost-free models, a failed defrost heater or sensor. The cause determines the fix, so it is worth having it diagnosed.

Can a garage freezer be repaired in the Florida heat?

Yes. Garage units often just need clean condenser coils, a working fan or a new gasket. If the garage regularly runs very hot, we may suggest where the freezer should sit to give it room to breathe.

Do you repair chest and built-in freezers?

Chest, upright and built-in freezer columns all fall under our freezer service. Call with the make and model so we can confirm parts availability before the visit.

Is same-day residential freezer repair available?

Same-day service is available. Call as early as you can and tell us what the appliance is doing, and we will let you know what is possible that day. Availability depends on our schedule and your location, and we do not promise a specific arrival window in advance.

Is there a warranty on residential freezer repair?

Yes. Repairs come with a warranty starting at six months. Ask us about the details for your repair when we discuss the work and the cost before we start.

Need refrigeration repair? Tell us what's wrong.

Call or send a quick message with the brand, model and symptoms. For a boat, include the marina and slip. We will get back to you to talk through the problem and schedule a visit.
